John is an ultra runner and coach to over 100 people. He provides coaching from beginners through to elites (sub 4 milers-2.12 marathon runners and elite level ultra runners). The main platform for his coaching service is Stazza’s Stable on Strava. John coaches athletes from a range of countries (Ireland, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, and the USA, amongst others). He is in the process of making a website for his coaching.
In his younger years, John won several county track and cross country championships and competed at national level. After leaving the Royal Air Force, where competed in both track and cross country and coached many successful athletes, John spent several years in Africa (Kenya and Botswana) running, coaching, and working as the editor on a national tabloid newspaper. On his return to the UK, John set up the world renowned fitness company, Peak Sporting Performance Ltd. Operating out of the iconic Iffley Road Stadium, where Bannister was the first man to break the four minute mile, John provided a full range of fitness services (nutrition, physical therapy, fitness testing, pitch side assistance etc) to over 50 sporting teams at the University of Oxford and helped several Olympians, across a range of sports.
After a break from competitive running, John decided to make a return 6 years ago (aged 46). He now runs 120-150 miles per week and on July 1st 2017, he will compete in the Belfast 24hr Ultra Race. The race includes the Irish Champs, The World Champs, and the World Masters. John is hoping to put in a strong performance in his inaugural ultra race, where Lemon Flavoured UCAN SuperStarch will be his only source of fuel.
