UCAN UK September Update by Wendy Ralfe, triathlete

September 29, 2015

When I was younger I could eat anything and everything and it didn’t seem to matter much; as I have got older, I have become more conscious of what goes into my body. I don’t want to put “rubbish” in my body, and I also have reactions to sugar and wheat. On top of that, I like to feel good, as I am sure you do too.

The more training I do the more fuel and recovery I need, and I found that with other fuels, this meant the more sugar I was dumping into my body. All the other gels and products that I have found on the market are full of sugar. Trying to find a sports fuel that didn’t have sugar or wheat in was pretty much a mission impossible. This is what got me onto Generation UCAN: it has no sugar and no wheat, and best of all, it keeps my blood sugar steady. This is awesome because steady blood sugar means I don’t get highs and crashes, which for me means I don’t get migraines.

If you want more information about what sugar does to your body, I read a book called “Pure white and deadly” by John Yudkin, which I found very interesting, and certainly explained a lot.

Until next time…

If you have any comments or questions, please email them to and I or the UCAN team will answer them.  The questions and answers will then be posted on here, to help others.
